Jabez, his mother named him “sorrow", but a day came, he got tired and he went to God the Re-writer of Stories and said . . . Oh God, that you will bless me indeed, that you will expand my coast, that your hands will be upon me, that you will keep me from evil that they don't hurt (or that I may not cause sorrow any more). The Lord heard and answered, and Jabez became more noble and honourable than all his brethren, for the Lord blessed him. Only God can re-write stories and the good news is that if you have given you heart to Jesus, He has already re-written you story. He calls you blessed and forgiven and new!
The new birth we have in Christ Jesus is not a nice little thing everyone must do to belong, no! It is me coming into a new life. Jesus came to give me that new life. The bible says If anyone is in Christ, he is anew creature, a new creation altogether, old things are passed away (the old moral and spiritual condition is passed away) and all things have become new, and all things are of God who has reconciled us to Himself. God did not just forgive you your sins; he made you a completely new person. They must have called you bad, and lost and good for nothing, but you are no longer good for nothing and bad and a failure and a sorrow, you are a new creature in Christ Jesus. The Spirit of God dwells in you now. Jesus is in you now! God is in you now. You have been washed by the blood. That is who you are. You are no longer bound to death and hell and disgrace, even if you are dying, you will live. You are empowered right now to change the course of your life. No longer will those old devils plague you. You need to stand on your feet and take up the new song in your mouth. Become the prophet of your own soul and begin to declare what the Lord said about you. Say it over your life continually until you believe it, and then say it some more. . . . This is a confession of who you are. Let all men be liars, let God alone be true. The words of your parents who do not know their right from their left will not control you and define you; the words of one drunken uncle will not mould you and drive you to insanity and stupidity. The words of one undiscerning enemy who calls himself or herself a friend will not lay hold of you. Let all men be liars, let only God be true. This is what God calls you, take side with God and start to reset your own life. Start confessing this:
"I walk by faith, by the word of God, not by what I see. I guide myself by what He says, not just by how I feel. I am loved, I am forgiven, and I am blessed. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I am a new creation, old things are passed away and all things are new and are of God. I am holy, I am righteous, I am washed in the blood. I am full of good fruits. The spirit of the living God is upon me and in me and with me. I am blessed not cursed. I am above only not beneath. Everywhere I turn the blessing attends to me. I am blessed going out, coming in, my store house is blessed, my basket and my stall. I am called by God, and I carry his presence and His power. God is in me. I am not afraid of evil tidings because my heart is fixed trusting the Lord. I know what to do. I know to obey God, to take sides with Him, to put his word in my mouth and in my heart and to think it, dream it, to say it, to fast it, to expect it, to imagine it to experience it. I am sold out to Jesus. That is what I am, that is what I call myself, that is who the Lord God has made me. I am His voice, I rejoice at his word. I walk in his light. I don't walk in darkness; I have my path flooded with light. I don't walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor do I sit in the sit of the scornful, nor do I stand in the way of sinners, but my heart is in Jesus and his word, and I meditate on it day and night. I am not bound, I am free. I am not suppressed, I am expressed. I am not dying, I am living. I am full of health and life and power and grace and goodness. Nani idinma na ebere runs after me (only goodness and mercy follows me). That is who I am, that is what I have. That is what you are in Christ Jesus. Halleluyah! Thank you Jesus!
