To explain who I am, I was one of those who you would call a "Voter" or better still an "Electorate" depending on how sophisticated I want to be. I may seem to an ordinary on-looker, a single individual, but I am more than that. I am an opinion former. I have over 1000 friends from around the world and in all works of life on the palm of my hand, and I can talk to them and get their response by just one written speech. Each of my friends have other thousands in their own network. When I start a conversation about someone, anyone, it may be seen around the world in a matter of minutes, and that communication does not cost me more than a dime or two.
I may seem like a single individual, but I voted in your predecessor, the outgoing president. Not just I, but most of my friends with me. We did not ask him for much, we only asked him to be president. We also protested a couple of time to give him a lead to what he should be doing. We asked him to tell us how much a liter of fuel actual costs, We asked him to explain why we must pay what he called a subsidy amount for fuel, and why we do not have functional refineries, but he thought we were just single insignificant individuals that he could ignore or deceive. He thought the CABAL was more important than us and instead of doing what my friends and I told him, he went the way of the CABAL.
We told him, Boko Haram is killing people in the North, do something about it. But Instead of acting, he kept making excuses until BH took over Borno, Yobe and Adamawa and freely caused mayhem across some other states. To cap it up, they stole over 200 girls from Chibok, and instead of him going after them, he went partying in Bayelsa and Ibadan, then went campaigning in Kano. He did nothing for 21 days after the girls were gone until my friends and I started asking him to bring back the girls. When we protested on the streets for the "Girls", he said we were opposition. When we put up campaigns to jolt him, he did not only ignore us, he made a mockery of it and put up his own "Bring Back Jonathan" as though he was lost. Because his voice was louder, he thought he drowned ours, but he did not. Let me tell you what we did, we voted him out and voted you in.
Dear Buhari, now that you are our President elect, there are a few thing we will like to put before you as you ascend office. They are not so many, but we will judge your administration based on them. They also may not seem important to the CABAL, but to us, they are most critical. Do them and you win our hearts, ignore them, and we will have no choice but . . .
Firstly, please don't band up with sycophants and forget your job. Jonathan did it. When we complained, instead of solving the problems, he hired Dr. Doyin Okupe and Femi Fani-Kayode to insult our intelligence, I am sure he learnt his lesson. When we complain about issues of national importance to us, don't wave it off, or defend yourself, address it squarely. If you address it and it doesn't work, we will all seek other solutions together and we will understand. Instead of defending yourself, engage the situation and give it your best shot.
Secondly, Power. Please fix our electricity. Jonathan balkanized and privatized PHCN, it has not worked. That clearly is not enough. My advice to you is to liberalize the generation segment of the market. Instead of asking anyone who generates over 10megawatts to sell it to national grid, allow them sign contracts with the distribution companies and sell to the catchment areas and then they can sell the excess to the national grid if they want. Let the Federal Government build generating plants to supply the national grid. Opening up the market will make more electricity available. You cannot run Nigeria on the template they used in 1960, it will not work.. We cannot bind our lives around the National Grid and keep the Nation in darkness.
Thirdly, don't waste money refurbishing the refineries, just build new ones with new technology. How can we, the 8th largest oil producer in the world, be the largest fuel importer in our category. Decide to build three brand new refineries and please do it. If you do, you will write your name is gold. We must stop importation of fuel and other crude oil products in this country with the next 3 years. Jonathan refused to do it and we are not sure whether it was because he was afraid of the CABAL or he did not know what to do. Building a new refinery is not rocket science, it can be done.
Fourthly, please empower the security operative to do their jobs and to do it on time. Kit them properly, pay them properly and on time. Be responsive to protect our territories and ensure that criminal elements and anyone who cause mayhem is brought to book. Why should Fulani herdsmen kill a whole community and not a single arrest is made not to talk of any prosecution. Everyone that takes up arms against a Nigerian citizen must know he will face the full wrath of the law. By the way extra judicial killing is not justice. Bring the criminals to court and let them be judged for their evil deeds and sentenced. In other words, strengthen the courts and let the judiciary function.
Remember education, healthcare, roads, good business environment, please pay attention to them. We understand you can't solve all the problems at once, but you sure can solve them one at a time.
Many more things we will ask, but these four will suffice for now.
Welcome to your new office by the way. May God bless you and bless the nation Nigeria that we all love.
