These individuals' roles throughout the season preceding the election, starting from the Osun state governorship elections till the presidentials, cannot be gainsaid. My wonder is, “what will they be doing now”? The sages of the Yoruba people have an adage "ta ba ran eni ni ise eru, a fi t'omo jee” to explain it in English will make us loose some of its punch, but if I make an attempt it would be explained as "if someone is sent the errand of a slave, you must be wise to deliver it like a progeny". The sages were wise because they understood that sometimes the messenger can end up getting punished for the message instead of the sender. You never lose if you follow the wisdom of the elders.
I remember Marilyn Ogah and the press statement during the Osun State elections. Some masked security operatives had accosted Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Spokesperson for the APC (who were in the opposition at that time) in the middle of the night and whisked him to an unknown destination on the eve of the gubernatorial elections in Osun State. The security operatives were apparently officers of the Department of States Security or Service I am not even sure, but DSS for short. While the visibly shaken man was narrating his ordeal and raising dusts a couple of days after, Marilyn Ogah took to the air and lambasted him without any form of decorum. She quipped about how he was shaking like a jelly fish on the night of the arrest and how he could now talk because he had been released. Whether Marilyn was speaking for herself, or her employers, the DSS, or whether she simply went beyond the call of duty was for her to answer. Her comments were seen as unprofessional and extremely condescending to say the least. But then, APC was in the opposition, they had just lost the Ekiti elections and were desperately working not to lose Osun. PDP was in power, and the insinuation was that PDP will continue to rule. Marilyn addressed the APC chieftain and an elderly person with such contempt, not caring whose ox was gored. Fast forward one year, APC wins the election, and the Chieftain has the power to decide her fate, what do you think will happen to her?
Senator-Elect Kashamu was said to be the leader of PDP Ogun state. In the run up to the elections, he took to insulting the Former President - Obasanjo. He even went as far as ensuring his book - My Watch, was not released in Nigeria. OBJ, in his characteristic manner went to London and launched the book there; after all, the Nigerian legal jurisdiction does not extend to the "Queen’s" Land. OBJ came back and publicly tore his PDP membership card. Meanwhile Kashamu is said to have a "criminal” case in the US and risks being arrested if he enters the jurisdiction. Kashamu took advantage of the rift between President Jonathan and Ex- president Obasanjo to push his own personal agenda. He did win a senatorial sit in Ogun State, but PDP lost at the Centre. But tell me, now that APC has won and the Ex-president is properly aligned with the APC, what will happen to Kashamu even though he is also a Senator Elect?
Femi Fani-Kayode was the spokesperson for the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Presidential campaign. He was perceived in some circles as notorious in issuing all forms of press releases on behalf of the campaign organization, some very controversial, some seen as extremely condescending, so much, I cannot even pick out one in particular. Meanwhile he had litigations on corruption hanging over his head at the EFCC all that time and the prosecutor on behalf of the EFCC is the boisterous, no- nonsense lawyer, Keyamo. Once the election was won and lost he was quick to excuse his utterances as "part of his job" but you remember the implication of the Yoruba adage, it implies that the messenger can be punished for the message delivered. The APC, they say, controls the courts. They have so many SANs you can count them all. The protection of the exiting government is all gone with the wind and it is now Fani-Kayode for himself, God for us all. Now that APC, the party he maligned much (as part of the game), and Buhari, whom he personally maligned over and above the space allowable in the game of politics, are now elected, what will happen to Mr. Fani-Kayode? Keyamo is already dragging his a* *@ at the court.
Doyin Okupe has simply disappeared since the election was won and lost. But he is an experienced politician, No one is sure where he is, but no word has been heard from him for weeks now. We may not see him again in the lime light until all these wind of change blow over properly, maybe in another 2 or so year. Hopefully our Nigerian memories would have been appeased, and as usually, we will be questioning why he should not be left alone, after all the winners have won and the losers have lost.
Even if I don't talks about Ayo Fayoshe because he has political immunity as a governor and has successfully led his party to win majority of the House of Assembly seats thereby securing his job for the moment while trying to mend fences with Buhari, OBJ and APC as a whole, I must talk about Police Officer Mbu, the man that claimed to have tamed the Lion of Rivers - Mr. Amaechi.
Mbu was hailed by the PDP people; they eulogized his "impunity" in Rivers State against the sitting governor. He was also perceived to have capitalized on the discord between the outgoing President Jonathan and the Governor Amaechi to act as the Administration’s bull dog. Instead of being reprimanded, the Administration posted him to Abuja, and later promoted him and sent him to the Lagos/Ogun area. Now, the Presidency has been lost and won, and Amaechi has become one of the key men of the new administration. Mbu too, having read the handwriting on the wall has become quiet. We haven't seen much of him in the public space for a couple of weeks, and no one has even mentioned his name. Maybe he will stay cool until clarion call, who knows, but the question about him also is, what will happen now that Amaechi’ s party has won the Center, and he is still in the police force?
While we wait for the questions to answer themselves the story of King David and that guy (Shimei) that cursed at him when Absalom deposed him, comes to mind. When David returned, the guy came to beg, David told him to go home, but years later, he gave Solomon charge, “Don’t hold his guiltless . . . . His hoar head you must send to the grave with blood".
Now that APC and its chieftains have been returned elected, we will wait and watch.
My parting shot then, Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom, and with all your getting, get understanding.
